GED Test Preparation Program

The smart way to learn, study and prepare to pass the GED!

Our free GED Test Preparation Program focuses on skill development that help you study for the official GED Tests with instructional videos, practice lessons, workshops, and direct instruction.  Assessments are provided indicating student readiness to pass each of the GED subject area exams: Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematics Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. Through the Essential Education-GED Academy on-line curriculum, students are free to study at times that are convenient for them, day or night, wherever an internet connection is available.

Students are expected to study a minimum of 5 hours per week on-line.  In addition, students will attend the GED Preparation Lab on-site at the SBAS campus two times per week to receive whole-group instruction, individualized tutoring, and educational planning support. This is not an on-line only study program.

*Update 8/4/21:  On-Campus classes begin August 30th, 2021.  All students and staff will follow COVID-19 protocol to maintain a safe and healthy experience for everyone.   Please contact us for the current COVID-19 Screening Protocol.

GED Test and Certification Information

The GED Testing program is a national test that has been used for over 65 years to measure and evaluate the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue higher education, obtain specific jobs, gain promotions, and achieve personal goals. A GED certificate is considered the equivalent of a high school diploma and is recognized throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. It is offered in both English and Spanish. Students with special needs may request accommodations in advance.
  • The GED Exam is comprised of four separate tests:  Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematics Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.  To pass, you must receive a standard score of at least 145 on each of the four tests and an average standard score of 650 or higher.
  • Preregistration is required for each test at www.ged.com.  The cost for each test is $35. The fee to retake a previously failed test is $15 per test.  Credit card only.
  • The fee includes the GED certificate.  Examinees must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Photo ID is required.
  • The South Bay Adult School is an approved GED Testing Center.
  • Any specific questions about the GED Test should be directed to 1.877.392.6433
