High School Diploma

High School Diploma Program Overview

South Bay Adult School offers a free Independent Study High School Diploma program for adults who have earned at least 100 high school credits. The program uses the Acellus online curriculum, which adjusts lessons based on each student’s strengths and areas for improvement. Students can study anytime, day or night, with internet access—no textbooks needed. Teachers support students with direct instruction, workshops, and one-on-one guidance to help them stay on track and succeed.

Students are expected to study at least 15 hours per week, which includes a minimum of 3 hours in the on-campus High School Diploma Lab. During lab time, students take exams, complete special lessons, and review progress with credentialed teachers. This is not an online-only program.

Graduation

Students who complete 220 credits in the required classes at any point during the school year are eligible to participate in a formal graduation ceremony in June. The ceremony is open to friends and family to celebrate your achievement and recognize your hard work and dedication.

Enrollment Process

The first step to enroll is attending an in-person Information Session and taking the CASAS test the same day. You'll learn about the High School Diploma and GED Preparation programs and have a chance to ask questions. Both programs require online study and on-campus attendance.

To speed up enrollment, request your official high school (and college, if any) transcripts as soon as possible as processing can take several weeks. Contact your former school to order them and keep them sealed. Transcripts are not required for the GED program.
