History and Interesting Facts
- SBAS is WASC Accredited
- SBAS has been in operation since 1918.
- Anyone 18 or older may attend.
- There are no residency requirements.
- SBAS offers classes at 3401 Inglewood Ave., Redondo Beach, 90278, and El Camino Community College.
- SBAS was recognized in November of 2020 by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Career, Technical, and Adult Education for "Innovation in Adult Education Programs."
- SBAS has been named a Promising Practice Program in ESL Citizenship by the State of California in 2021.
- SBAS has been named a Promising Practice Program in Writing by the California Department of Education in 2023.
- ESL classes are offered in the morning, Monday through Friday, and evening, Monday through Thursday.
- Our 1,100 ESL students annually represent more than 65 countries.
- SBAS is open year-round and offers four terms — Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer.
- Citizenship classes are provided for both English speakers and English learners.
- We are an Authorized Pearson View GED Testing Center.
- SBAS has partnered with the South Bay Workforce Investment Board and Torrance One Stop.
- Students can receive support with applications for public assistance programs such as SNAP and TANF, and other support resources through our Resource Office.
